Interdisciplinary relationships and Integrated learning at the level of the planned curriculum in the educational areas of Mathematics and its Applications and Arts and Culture
HAVLÍČKOVÁ, Lenka
This diploma thesis concentrates on Interdisciplinary relationships and Integrated learning in the educational areas of Mathematics and its Applications and Arts and Culture. The aim of the diploma thesis is to prepare a set of exercises from the thematic area of geometry at Lower primary school, which integrates a selected curriculum in both educational areas. Exercises are focused on the concepts of symmetry, area of polygons and covering plains. Selected exercises are realized and verified in educational practice.

Title: The diagnostics of students' difficulties in CLIL Author: Ing. Alena Šteflíčková Department: Department of Mathematics and Mathematical Education Supervisor: Prof. RNDr. Jarmila Novotná, CSc. Abstract: The topic of this diploma thesis is the diagnostics of students' difficulties in CLIL. The aim of my thesis was to create and analyze the test, which would integrate both a language (English) and a non-linguistic subject (Mathematics). There are six parts of my thesis. The first one deals with basic facts about CLIL, the second one is aimed at assessment and assessment at schools, the third one deals with tests and their creation. An assessment of CLIL students is the topic of the fourth part. Other two parts contain three tests, analysis of one of the tests and analysis of pupils' solutions of this test. Keywords: CLIL, integrated learning, assessment, diagnostics, testing, tests
Use of the CLIL method in teaching mathematics for lower secondary pupils
Reslová, Hana ; Novotná, Jarmila (advisor) ; Moraová, Hana (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL). The term stands for a teaching method used in the non-language classes that has a content-oriented and lingual goal. CLIL has been incorporated into the learning process as one of the instruments that leads to improving language learning in Europe. The aim of my thesis was to prepare, realize and evaluate a twomonth long process of using CLIL in lessons of Math for lower secondary pupils. In the experiment I surveyed the impact of the connection between Math and English language on pupils' motivation and Math knowledge. The experimental lessons were focused on the topics of ratio, direct and inverse proportion. The main method used in the thesis was action research. Other applied methods were quantitative methods (questionnaires) and qualitative methods (interview and mediated observation). Parts of the thesis include preparations of seven CLIL lessons accompanied by methodical description and worksheets. These materials were used in lessons during the experiment. The experiment showed and proved the procedure of successful CLIL method implementation to the lessons of Math. The implementation did not have a negative impact on pupils' motivation, knowledge and activity on the lesson's.
Teaching Mathematics using the CLIL method for lower secondary pupils
Sedláčková, Veronika ; Novotná, Jarmila (advisor) ; Bureš, Jiří (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with CLIL which stands for Content and Language Integrated Learning, to be more precise it deals with the integration of Mathematics and English for lower secondary pupils. To realize this method I have chosen the topics of congruent figures in the plane and reflective symmetry. The aim of my thesis was to check whether the chosen topics are suitable for CLIL lessons, whether CLIL method is not an obstacle for the activity of pupils in the lesson or if it does not create any problems with understanding of the subject matter in Mathematics. The theoretical part is focused on describing the CLIL method in general, then I summarize the preparation of the educational experiment and describe the project of the lessons in English and in Czech language. The last part is dedicated to the realization of the experiment with three different groups of pupils of the 6th grade of elementary school. The gained data have been processed on the basis of observation and analysis of the final individual work and the questionnaire. The results of observation and analysis confirm that it is possible to integrate the teaching of Mathematics and foreign language successfully. The thesis includes English and Czech worksheets together with methodology for the topics of congruent figures and...
